Episode #7: The Disappearance of Lauren Spierer
Summary of the Case:
On June 2nd into June 3rd 2011, Lauren Spierer hung out with friends, went to bars, and spent the last night anyone would see her again.
That evening, she left her apartment complex with her friend David Rohn, and the two walked several blocks to her friend Jay’s apartment. Around 1:46 am the morning of the 3rd, Lauren left Jay’s apartment and walked with Corey to a nearby, popular pub, called Kilroy’s. She left the bar with Corey around 2:30am.
Lauren and Corey walked the 2 blocks back to her apartment. But before she can make it inside her apartment, Corey got into a physical altercation at the apartment complex. A lawyer for Cory stated that Cory most likely developed a concussion from the incident, because Cory claims he can’t remember the time surrounding the incident.
Without any shoes, Lauren is captured on camera for the last time, leaving her apartment complex again at 2:51AM. She begins walking to Cory’s apartment complex, and a third person joins her and Cory, who has never been named by police. Lauren’s purse and keys will later be found along this route. According to witnesses, Lauren appears to be very intoxicated at this point, and is stumbling and falling. Lauren and Corey arrive at his apartment, and Cory’s roommate Mike is home when they get there. She tries to get Mike to come to her apartment with her. Lauren ends up going over to Jay’s apartment, and according to Jay, she wanted him to come over to her apartment so they could keep drinking. Jay tries to get Lauren to stay at his apartment and sleep it off, but she is not interested. She borrows his phone and calls 2 friends, neither of whom answer, and then finally she decides to leave. Jay watches her walk away, barefoot, no keys, purse or phone, around 4:30 in the morning. And he is the last person to be confirmed to see Lauren.
Many theories have emerged over the years of what happened to Lauren. A popular theory is that she accidentally overdosed that night, and her friends covered it up. Another popular theory is that she was abducted on her way home. A man was later convicted of the murder of another girl, Hannah Wilson, and the cases had some similarities. However, Lauren’s case remains open.
