Episode #27: The Dallas Transgender Serial Murders
Summary of the Cases:
Chynal Lindsey was 26 when she was found dead in a lake in Dallas, TX. The few days leading up to Chynal’s death, she had been sharing text messages with Ruben Alvarado, a 22-year-old man from Dallas. Several weeks after Chynal’s murder, Ruben was arrested for unrelated misdemeanor charges. During his arrest, police were able to piece together the information, and then charged him with the murder.
Muhlaysia Booker was only 23 when she was found dead of a gunshot wound in Dallas, TX. Several weeks before her death, she had been the victim of a hate crime, where she was beat by several men and the beating was recorded and circulated on social media. However, Muhlaysia’s murder would be unrelated, meaning she was victimized twice by two completely different perpetrators. While investigating a man for the murder of two other victims, police would find he was connected to Muhlaysia. After determining 33-year-old Kendrell Lyles to be a suspect, police were able to obtain his cell phone information. They determined his cell phone had been near Muhlaysia’s cell phone when she got into that car, and their cell phones were near each other around the time she was shot and murdered. Following this connection, Kendrell was arrested on suspicion of all 3 murders.
29-year-old Brittany White was found fatally shot in October, 2018, in Southeast Dallas. According to police, Brittany was either traveling in a car with someone or let someone into her car at the time of her death. Her mother believes White was murdered during a robbery, and rejects the idea it was a hate crime.
Carla was found strangled and barely alive in her own apartment. She was transported to the hospital, but unfortunately did not survive her attack. Not much than a week later, 24-year-old Eugene Johnson III was arrested during a traffic stop for the murder of Carla. He had been communicating with Carla via an online dating app prior to her murder, and police found property belonging to Carla in his car during the search. Police have announced they believe the motive of the killing was robbery, and was not a hate crime.
In June 2015, Shade Schuler’s decomposing body was found in a rural field. It took several weeks to identify her, especially since police first identified her as a male. She had been killed with a gun. Her case is still unsolved.
Janette Tovar was 43 when she was beaten to death by her boyfriend Jonathon Kenney in Dallas, TX, in 2012. At first, Jonathon was charged with murder, but later the charges changed to aggravated assault. He plead guilty, and was sentenced to 10 years probation.
