Episode #10: Gypsy Rose, Nick Godejohn, and the Muder of DeeDee Blancharde

Summary of the case:

Gypsy Rose and DeeDee Blancharde only had each other. Gypsy had been a sick child for her whole life, and DeeDee had dedicated her life to taking care of her daughter.

However, as a young adult, Gypsy would soon realize she was not actually sick, and her mother was faking it. Gypsy would spend time on the internet meeting men, which would result in severe punishments if she was caught by her mother. Eventually, Gypsy began a serious relationship with Nicholas Godejohn, a man with a below average IQ, and self-described multiple personalities.

Together, Nick and Gypsy would plan the murder of her mother. Nick came into the home, and stabbed DeeDee to death with Gypsy in the next room. They returned to Nick’s home in Wisconsin together to begin their new lives. But when no one found DeeDee after several days, the pair wrote a cryptic Facebook status that lead investigators straight back to the couple.

The infamous Facebook post

The couple were arrested for murder, and Nick soon confessed to the murder in his interrogation.

It was determined that DeeDee was had been likely suffering from Munchaesen by Proxy, and had been torturing her daughter for years.

Gypsy was able to secure a plea deal for second degree murder, but Nick stood trial. He was found guilty of first degree murder, and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
